These awesome photos are from the 2013 Weston Sand Sculpture Festival on the sandy shores of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England. Each year the festival has a different theme and this year’s theme is Hollywood.

“Since the festival started in 2006, themes have included Fairy Tales, The Continents of the World, Under the Ocean, Great Britain, and The Jungle. What began with two Dutch sand sculptors building a giant King Kong from 30 tonnes of sand has now turned into a world famous get-together of some of the niftiest hands in sand sculpting.

More than 20 of the world’s greatest sculptors from nine different countries are working away using 4,000 tonnes of sand from the beach.”

The festival opened on Good Friday and runs through the end of September.

Early this morning Yahoo announced it would be acquiring Tumblr for $1.1 billion in cash – roughly a quarter of the purchase price Disney put up for Lucasfilm – and promised to “not screw it up.” Naturally, there were some long-time users who were skeptical of the deal and decided to express their feelings. On Tumblr.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, in an apropos move, announced the deal on her own Tumblr with a post titled “Tumblr. + Yahoo! = !!” and a GIF of the “keep calm and carry on” meme, which naturally was the Tumblr community’s cue to panic and freak out. No sooner had the deal been announced than users from the site’s 100-plus-million blogs began to chime in with their thoughts.

“Do not distroy the fandoms. Please,” implored one user. “So Yahoo bought Tumblr, which means it’s time to pack my bags and move on,” laments another. “It’s been real good knowing you, Tumblr.” Others, naturally, posted their own response GIFs, like the Simpsons logo mashup above which was posted with the caption “Enough said.” And in the grand re-blogging tradition, a separate Tumblr has been established called Meltdowns About Yahoo Buying Tumblr to catalog the reaction posts. Grand Prismatic Spring

Located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, the Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest natural hot spring found in the US. The spring has a scalding temperature of 160 °F (70 °C), a total depth of 160 feet and a diameter of 300 feet. The vivid, rainbow colors in the spring are the result of pigmented bacteria in the microbial mats that grow around the edges of the mineral-rich water.
